Indonesia launched its first official internet satellite with the help of Elon Musk’s company SpaceX.

Indonesia launched its first official internet satellite from the US mainland on Monday to provide internet access to remote parts of the country, international media reported.

It is worth noting here that more than one third of the people living in the remote areas of Indonesia, a country of 17 thousand islands, do not have access to the Internet.

The SATRIA-1 satellite took off from the launch station in Florida on Monday morning, Indonesian time, deployed by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

This satellite has been developed by the French defense electronics company Thales and its production has cost 540 million dollars.

Indonesia hopes the satellite will connect 90,000 schools, 40,000 hospitals and government buildings.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo called the satellite ‘Asia’s most talented and the country’s first official multi-function satellite’ in an Instagram post on Monday.

The satellite is scheduled to be online by 2024 and will provide a connection speed of 150 gigabytes per second, which is three times faster than the current speed of satellite internet in Indonesia.

PT Pacific Satellite Nusantara (PSN) President Commissioner Ari Riana Hardjapamax said in his speech broadcast during the launch that the construction of this satellite was delayed due to the Corona epidemic and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

PT Pacific Satellite Nusantara (PSN) Company is part of this project in partnership with the Government of Indonesia.
