Beirut: Lebanon’s parliament failed to elect a president for the 12th time in a row.

According to the international news organization, in the voting for the election of the president in the Parliament of Lebanon, not a single candidate could get a clear majority in the house of 128.

In the first phase, former finance minister Jihad Azour got 59 votes, while Sulaiman Faranjay, who belongs to Hezbollah, got 51 votes.

After which the second phase of the presidential election was to be held, but before that the members of Hezbollah and the allied party walked out. After his departure from the House, the quorum could not be met and the parliamentary elections had to be postponed.

The number of Muslim and Christian members in Lebanon’s parliament is equal. Hezbollah, which has been declared a terrorist group by the United States, is a very popular party in Lebanon, but it does not get the required support in the parliament.

This is the reason why the transition of power in Lebanon has been stalled for the past three years. There is currently neither a head of state nor a fully empowered cabinet.

It is also a unique event in the country’s history that there is no elected or mandated legal government.
