Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz has said that Biparjoy has become an extremely severe cyclonic storm, which is 770 kilometers south of Karachi.

Talking to ‘Geo News’ Sardar Sarfaraz said that severe storm Biparjoy has intensified in the Arabian Sea, the storm is 750 km south of Thatta and 860 km south east of Ormara.

He said that this hurricane system will continue to move towards the north, the wind speed in the center of the system is 140 to 160 km per hour, the waves are rising 30 to 40 feet in the center and sides of the system.

Sardar Sarfraz says that the storm may strike between the Indian Gulf of Kutch and Southeast Sindh, the impact of the storm depends on the intensity of its impact.

The chief meteorologist also said that if the storm weakens, its intensity will remain that of a severe hurricane, with waves at KT Bandar of 8 to 10 feet high.

Heavy rain is expected in Karachi from the storm

On the other hand, the Meteorological Department says that the direction of the storm is in the north and northeast direction, there is a possibility of heavy rain with strong winds and thunder in South East Sindh.

During this time, winds can blow at a speed of 60 to 80 km per hour, while heavy rain is expected in Karachi, Thatta, Sajawal, Badin, Tharparkar and Mirpurkhas from the evening or night of June 13.

The Department of Meteorology has said that due to strong winds, fragile structures may be damaged, there will be severe flooding in the sea until the presence of the storm in the Arabian Sea, fishermen should not go to the open sea from today until the end of the storm, the Department of Meteorology has said. Cyclone Warning Center is monitoring the system.

Control room established in Thatta

The district administration of Thatta has issued a high alert after the forecast of the meteorological department.

Fishermen have been stopped from going hunting in the sea and emergency has been imposed in hospitals by canceling the leave of employees of all institutions.

The district administration has directed all the departments including the health department, revenue department to be on alert and has set up control rooms in the offices of assistant commissioners and Mukhtarkar of the respective areas.

High alert, emergency enforced in Badin

A high alert was issued by the district administration in view of the threat of cyclone in Badin as well.

Deputy Commissioner Badin Agha Shahnawaz has said that the holidays of the employees of all government departments have been canceled and emergency has been imposed in all the hospitals of the district.
