Sindh government's decision to run eco-friendly electric taxis in Karachi

Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to run eco-friendly electric taxis in Karachi and add 500 more buses to the People’s Bus Service.

According to the details, in a high-level meeting chaired by Minister of Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, it was decided to run 200 electric taxis in Karachi to provide more travel facilities to the people during the next financial year, and at a cost of 25 billion rupees. It was decided to buy 500 new buses and add them to the People’s Bus Service.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that electric taxi service will be started by Sindh government to provide facilities to the people. Initially, 200 electric taxis will be operated in Karachi, of which 50 pink taxis will be reserved for women. Sharjeel Inam Memon said that women drivers will be hired for pink cabs reserved for women.

The Transport Minister further said that electric taxi will provide affordable travel facilities to the people and employment opportunities to the unemployed youth. Apart from this, running environment-friendly taxis will save billions of rupees in oil, which will benefit both the people and the government.
He said that charging and parking depots for electric taxis will also be built at different places in the city.

Secretary Transport Salim Rajput, CEO Trans Karachi Tufail Plaju, PD Yellow Line Ameer Owaisi, GM Redline Pir Sajjad, PD PSB Sohib also attended the meeting.
The Minister of Transport while giving instructions to bring all the buses of the People’s Bus Service on the road in the city of Karachi said that the buses standing in backup should also be activated immediately for the convenience of the people. He said that by June 15, 20 more buses will be received by the Sindh government and they will also be included in the People’s Bus Service to provide travel facilities to the people.

The Transport Minister gave instructions for immediate planning and implementation of interlinking of Orange Line, Green Line and Red Line buses. He said that 500 buses will be purchased during the next financial year and the Ministry of Transport should prepare a proposal in this regard. Sharjeel Inam directed to start a new route of People’s Bus Service from Hattri to Khesana Mori in Hyderabad.

In the meeting, Secretary Transport Salim Rajput proposed to run People’s Bus service twice for the convenience of teachers and students of GC University Hyderabad, on which Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon issued planning instructions.
