Riots over Imran Khan's arrest;  Punjab Government's decision to form JIT

Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to form a JIT on the riots that took place after the arrest of Chairman PTI Imran Khan.

On the occasion of the arrival of caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi at the head office of Punjab Safe Cities Authority, a review meeting was held on the law and order situation in the province. It was decided to form a joint investigation team to investigate the tragic events.

The JIT will investigate the recent incidents of riots and submit a comprehensive report to the government. In this regard, it has been ordered to speed up operations to bring all the miscreants under the law, while geo-fencing will be done at all the places with small outbreaks.

Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab said on this occasion that all the cases against miscreants will be tried in the anti-terrorism court. He directed the Public Prosecution Department to ensure speedy trial of all the cases and said that no guilty person will be spared and innocent people will not be spared.

He said that the elements who attacked Jinnah House, military, civil and private property will not escape from severe punishment. A zero tolerance policy has been adopted against miscreants. In sha Allah, educational institutions will be opened on May 15. The situation is improving, we will ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. The concerned agencies should continue to coordinate well to maintain the law and order situation.

The caretaker chief minister said that the entire force is on alert to thwart the nefarious intentions of the miscreants. On this occasion, Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar briefed the meeting regarding the law and order situation in the province and the actions taken against the rioters.

Provincial Information Minister Aamir Mir, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Additional Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary Interior, Additional IG Special Branch, CCPO Lahore, Additional IGC CTD, Secretary Law, Secretary Public Prosecution, MD Punjab Safe Cities Authority, Commissioner Lahore Division, Deputy Commissioner and related officials were also present in the meeting. Besides, all Divisional Commissioners and RPOs participated in the meeting through video link.
