A two-day meeting of the United Nations on the situation in Afghanistan has started in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The meeting is chaired by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
Many countries including Pakistan, America, China, Iran, India and Great Britain are participating in the meeting. The Taliban government was not invited to the meeting.
Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman of the Taliban, has expressed the expectation that the Doha meeting will pave the way for the lifting of sanctions on Afghanistan.
In his statement, he further said that the release of frozen assets of Afghanistan should also be discussed.
