MUMBAI: Nobel Prize winning economist Amartya Sen has joined hands.
Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen, who has dedicated his entire life to India, has been issued a notice to vacate his ancestral home on the campus by the university administration.
In a notice issued by the Vishwa Bharati University of West Bengal, it has been said that Amartya Sen should voluntarily vacate his ancestral house by May 5, otherwise he will be forcibly evicted.
The university authorities are of the view that Prof. Sen has illegally occupied the campus house, while Amartya Sen maintains that the land of the house is in his name and that the house has been with his family since the forties.
According to Vishwanath Chakraborty, professor of Vishwa Bharati University, people of liberal and left-wing ideologies consider Professor Sen as their supporter, while the BJP considers him as their opponent.
Prof. Sen had opposed Modi’s nomination as Prime Minister. They are against his Hindutva policy.
On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condemned the order of the university administration and threatened to hold a sit-in for forcing Amartya Sen to vacate the house.
It may be recalled that Amartya Sen was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1998 for his work on ‘Welfare Economics’ and ‘Social Choice Theory’.
