The Supreme Court’s Practice and Procedure Amendments were challenged in the Islamabad High Court.
Lawyer Saeed Aftab filed an application in which he has requested to declare the proposed act null and void.
It was contended in the petition that the main demand was only for the right of appeal against the decisions under Article 184, the right of appeal could be granted without curtailing the powers of the Chief Justice.
The petition also stated that the right of intra-court appeal could have been granted on the lines of the High Court.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill presented by the Federal Minister of Law, Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, was approved by a majority vote in the joint session of the Parliament yesterday.
During the meeting, Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf approved the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill in a joint session of the Parliament after polling the members.
