Seoul: South Korea has apologized to North Korea for the accidental firing of one of its soldiers near the border, saying the firing was unintentional.
According to the foreign news agency, the shooting happened during a military training on the border of South Korea’s Gangwon province, in which four rounds were fired from a machine gun and the bullets went across the border.
South Korean military officials sent a message to the North Korean military over the incident, clarifying that the firing was unintentional and was not intended as provocation or aggression.
So far, there has been no comment from North Korea, nor did North Korea take any retaliatory action on the firing incident.
Keep in mind that despite the armistice of 1953, North and South Korea are still technically at war and are often literally at war.
