Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided not to enter into any correspondence with the Ministry of Finance and the provincial government regarding the general elections in Punjab and to keep the Supreme Court informed about the entire situation.
According to the decision of the Supreme Court, a meeting of the Election Commission was held on the issue of general elections in Punjab, in which consultation and important decisions were taken. According to Election Commission sources, there will be no correspondence with the finance ministry and the Punjab government regarding the elections because the Supreme Court had given a detailed decision regarding the elections. In the light of which the Election Commission has done its work, now if the rest of the institutions do not follow the order of the Supreme Court, then it is the matter of the Supreme Court and theirs.
Sources of the Election Commission said that since the Supreme Court’s decision has clear instructions for the Finance Minister, Chief Secretary and IG Punjab, the Commission will not correspond with them. The Supreme Court in the judgment has directed the finance ministry to provide funds directly. Along with this, Chief Secretary and IG Punjab have been directed to give self-management and security plan to the Commission by April 17.
Sources of the Election Commission said that the reports of the finance ministry and caretaker Punjab government will be submitted to the Supreme Court by the legal team. According to sources, if the finance ministry does not provide the funds, the Supreme Court will be informed. If the Punjab government does not provide a security plan, then the Supreme Court will be told about it as the Election Commission has done its work. Now the rest of the institutions have to take their decision.
It was decided in the meeting that if the institutions do not follow the decision of the Supreme Court, then they should go to the Supreme Court and find out those institutions. The final port will be submitted to the Supreme Court by the Election Commission. The Election Commission is concentrating on the preparations for the general elections in Punjab.
