London: A historic ceremony was held at 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister of Great Britain, where after the first recitation of the Holy Quran, the call to prayer sounded and Muslims broke the fast as guests.

An iftar dinner was also organized at Lancaster House of the British Foreign Office. Prominent UK-based Muslim leaders were invited to both venues and special arrangements were made for adhan, namaz and recitation of the Holy Quran.

Conservative Party Chairman Greg Hands welcomed guests to 10 Downing Street and acknowledged the contribution of Muslims to Britain’s development. He praised Islam as a religion of peace and security, adding that Ramadan has now become part of the religious and social culture of Britain.

The ministers expressed their determination to make London the center of Islamic finance in the world. The Imam of Al-Azhar University, Egypt, Sheikh Hani Saad Mahmoud, was the special guest of the ceremony and he enlightened the hearts of all the attendees with his recitation of the Holy Quran.
