Karachi: Pakistan is facing extreme vulnerability due to climate change while significant steps need to be taken to eradicate poverty.

A high-powered delegation of the World Bank, led by its Regional Director for Sustainable Development (SD) South Asia, Mr. John A. Rome, met Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House.

According to the report, Pakistan is a low GHG emitter, but Pakistan has opportunities to improve the atmosphere in its own interest. Climate change is already having a devastating impact on the country. In 2002, an extraordinary flood inundated one-third of the country and caused 1,700 deaths.

Chief Minister Sindh directed the P&D team to study the report and recommendations of the World Bank and then formulate its development plan in the light of the report so that poverty can be eradicated from the province through sustainable development.
