BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the second session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi and delivered an important speech titled “Consolidate the Foundation of BRICS Cooperation and Strengthen the Global South.”
Speaking on Sunday, President Xi Jinping pointed out that various risks and challenges are emerging one after another. He said BRICS countries should unite with countries of the Global South to jointly uphold the rule of international law, safeguard the basic principles of international relations, including sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs and peaceful settlement of disputes, and ensure that international laws and regulations are applied equally without double standards.
Xi Jinping stressed that it is necessary to strengthen the foundation of practical cooperation in order to achieve greater BRICS cooperation. He put forward five proposals for deepening BRICS cooperation.
First, efforts should be made to promote the development of open-source and inclusive artificial intelligence. China will take the initiative to establish a BRICS AI Open Source Zone.
Second, greater facilitation should be provided in trade and investment. China will host the BRICS Services Trade Forum next year.
Third, cooperation in the digital industry should be promoted. China will facilitate the establishment of a BRICS Digital Industry Cloud Platform.
Fourth, cooperation in smart manufacturing should be advanced.
Fifth, science and technology talent development should be promoted. China will implement a BRICS Youth Science and Technology Innovation Exchange Program.
President Xi Jinping emphasized that this year marks the first year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. He said the plan is not only China’s own development blueprint but also a list of opportunities for cooperation with the world.
Xi said China will continue expanding high-level opening-up, implement the Global Development Initiative, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, share development opportunities with countries around the world, create common prosperity, and jointly open a new chapter of unity and self-reliance in the Global South.
Xi Jinping: China Has Always Viewed China-India Ties From a Strategic and Long-Term Perspective
NEW DELHI: Chinese President Xi Jinping met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit. The two leaders held in-depth discussions on various issues and reached important consensus on China and India becoming partners.
Speaking on Sunday, President Xi Jinping said China has always viewed and promoted China-India relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.
He noted that China and India have different national conditions, but the two sides can leverage their respective strengths, complement each other’s shortcomings, support each other and help one another achieve common development and success.
Xi Jinping put forward four proposals to promote the stable and long-term development of China-India relations.
First, the two sides should chart the right course of development through an objective and rational strategic understanding.
Second, they should achieve mutual success through cooperation and a win-win approach.
Third, political strategies based on mutual respect and understanding should be adopted to remove interference, advance the coordinated development of bilateral relations and boundary issues, and maintain peace and stability in border areas.
Fourth, the two countries should work for the benefit of humanity through multilateral cooperation based on openness and inclusiveness.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India has always viewed its relations with China from a strategic and long-term perspective. He said India is ready to view China as a partner rather than a rival, and China’s development as an opportunity rather than a challenge.
Modi said India follows an independent foreign policy and the development of India-China relations is not influenced by any third party.
He said India’s policy and position on issues concerning Taiwan and Xizang have not changed, and India will not allow any force to conduct anti-China activities from its territory.
Modi said India is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with China, strengthen strategic communication, promote mutually beneficial cooperation and expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges to further advance bilateral relations.
He thanked China for supporting India’s hosting of the BRICS Summit and said India would fully support China’s BRICS chairmanship next year.
Modi said India is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China, jointly promote cooperation among the Global South, advance global multipolarity and economic development, and play its role as a stable and progressive force in a turbulent world.
