NEW DELHI: Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced that China will assume the BRICS presidency in 2027 and host the 19th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
Addressing the first session of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech titled “Shouldering the Responsibilities of the Times and Courageously Striving to Be a Pioneer.”
Xi Jinping noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of BRICS cooperation. Over the past two decades, the BRICS cooperation mechanism has continued to develop and has become one of the most influential platforms for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries. BRICS cooperation has now entered a new stage of high-quality development of “Greater BRICS Cooperation.”
The Chinese president said the trend toward greater global multilateralism cannot be stopped. BRICS countries should firmly stand on the right side of history, promote the international order toward greater fairness and reasonableness, and work together to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
He called on BRICS countries to play a leading role in promoting innovation-driven development, maintaining peace and stability, advancing mutual learning among civilizations, and improving global governance.
Xi Jinping stressed that unity and cooperation have always been a key source of strength for BRICS cooperation. He urged member countries to seek common ground while setting aside differences, respect each other’s core concerns, promote mutual understanding through dialogue, and properly resolve differences and disputes to ensure the long-term and stable development of BRICS cooperation.
Earlier, President Xi Jinping attended a reception in New Delhi hosted in honor of the leaders of BRICS countries.
