Kuala Lumpur: Former Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin was arrested on charges of extorting money from contractors for party funds in exchange for development projects.

According to the international news organization, the country’s anti-corruption agency, which arrested the former prime minister, said that the 75-year-old suspect Muhyiddin Yasin will be presented in court tomorrow.

In its statement, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) further said that the former prime minister was questioned on the country’s corona lockdown and subsequent economic recovery plan launched by his government.

It should be noted that former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yasin voluntarily participated in the interrogation on these charges, but he was detained.

Muhyiddin Yasin became the second Prime Minister of the country to be arrested after resigning from the Prime Ministership.

Earlier, former Prime Minister Najib Razak, who was arrested in 2018, is serving a 12-year prison sentence.

It should be noted that Muhyiddin Yassin was the Prime Minister from March 1, 2020 to August 16, 2021 in Malaysia, which is suffering from a continuous political crisis. Since 2018, no prime minister in Malaysia has been able to maintain a government for more than two years.
