Iran’s ambassador to Spain, Hassan Ghashghawi, walked away without shaking hands with the queen during a ceremony on Wednesday.
The event was held at the Zarzaiola Palace in the capital Madrid. In a video shared on Twitter, it can be seen that the Iranian ambassador shook hands with King Philip VIII.
But Ambassador Ghashgavi shook hands with Queen Letizia, who was standing next to King Philip, and walked on without looking at her.
According to foreign media, this action of the Iranian ambassador is being described as humiliating and strange.
Social media users are saying that instead of shaking hands, Ghashghawi put his hand on his chest in front of the queen and bowed his head slightly.
Some users believe that the queen was already told by her staff that the Iranian ambassador would not shake hands, so she too stood still.
