Berlin: Germany has expelled two Iranian diplomats in protest over the death sentence of a German citizen by a Tehran court.

According to the World News Agency, a 67-year-old man named Jamshed Shermahd is an American-born German citizen who has been sentenced to death by an Iranian court for the bombing of a mosque in 2008.

14 worshipers were killed in this blast in 2008.

Iran also accused Jamshed Shermahd of being the head of a group called Thunder, which aimed to restore the reign of the Shah of Iran before the Khomeini revolution.

According to Iran, this organization has the support and assistance of America. Iran’s opposition parties are supported by the organization’s television and radio broadcasts from New York and Los Angeles.

While strongly protesting the decision of Jamshed Shermahd’s death sentence, German Foreign Minister Annalina Birbock said that the Iranian Embassy has ordered two diplomats to leave Germany immediately, declaring them non-grata.

Germany’s foreign minister had also registered a protest by summoning Iran’s charge d’affaires on this issue, while also demanding the Iranian government to revoke the death sentence of Jamshed Shermahd.

The German foreign minister also asked the Iranian government to make a fair appeal based on the rule of law possible.

It should be noted that in August 2020, Iran had confirmed the arrest of Jamshed Shermahd and said that Jamshed Shermahd had been arrested through a “complex operation”.

On the other hand, the family of Jamshed Shermahd says that Iranian security services kidnapped Jamshed and took him to Iran while in transit in Dubai.
