Road closures for PSL; The entire city is in trouble, the Sindh High Court

Karachi: The Sindh High Court has ordered the police authorities to submit a joint response by March 6 regarding the closure of Sir Shah Sulaiman Road on the petition against road closure for PSL.

A hearing was held before a two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi against the closure of roads for PSL. On the court order, DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara and other DIGs appeared.

DIG Traffic said that no road was closed on our side. Chief Justice inquired if you have come here to fool us, where are DIG operations. DIG Operations said the road was closed due to security issue.

Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi remarked that the whole city is being put in trouble in the name of security, when the team has to come and go, block the road at that time so that people do not have difficulty, on the day when people’s patience is full. If they go, then they will do a lot. It was explained to people before but no one understood. I am very disappointed with your response when the court had clear orders. I never get personally angry with anyone nor ask them to do so. SSU people have also become very Tarm Khan. Please write that no road will be closed for no reason.

The Chief Justice remarked that we are not sitting here to make any drama, I have even removed the flag from my car. People expect from us that we can do something good for them. Your work should be such that people respect you, since this country has been in danger since it was founded. When people do not get justice from here, then they will come to the streets. Police officials said that the road is not properly closed.

The court expressed its anger on the police and remarked that after the meeting of IG Sindh, it was decided that the road will not be closed. Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi remarked that people say to take away PSL Bahria Town from here, close the time when the team is coming. People still have some faith in the courts, fear the time when people will hold you accountable on the streets. People are already worried, this is a very serious matter.

DIG Traffic said that there was a meeting chaired by the IG in which it was said that the road will not be closed. SSP Operations said that there were serious threats due to which the road was blocked.

Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi remarked that either the IG is incompetent or there are officers who are not controlled by the IG of Sindh. SSU people are also big Toram Khan. The public prosecutor submitted that the teams have got VVIP security.

The Chief Justice remarked that assure that the road will not be closed now, the newspapermen will put up headlines. We don’t want people to suffer any more. We are free from fear and greed. People are getting angry with the policemen. For seventy years, the country is in danger, who is in danger? I ask my driver to respect the signal and don’t give us VIP protocol either, few thousand people disturb millions of people. The government lawyer stated that if given time, they will submit a joint reply.

The court remarked that in future to be careful in this regard, the officers need not appear at the next hearing. If desired, it can be closed for one hour on the arrival and departure of the team. The public prosecutor submitted that there had been an accident before this and there had been no international cricket for years.

The court ordered the police authorities to submit a joint response by March 6 regarding the closure of Sir Shah Sulaiman Road.
