Karachi: Section 144 has been imposed in the red zone on the occasion of the Sindh Assembly meeting to take oath of the newly elected members, while on this occasion the protestors were lathi-charged by the police and arrests were also made.
Protesters enter the red zone
On the day of the swearing-in session of the Sindh Assembly organized by the opposition parties against the rigging of the results of the general elections, protests are being held in various places across the city, due to which heavy traffic on the Faisal Highway and other main roads and routes is being held. There was a jam and there were long queues of vehicles.

On the other hand, during the security and implementation of Section 144 on the occasion of the Sindh Assembly session, the GDA workers who gathered near the Assembly were detained by the police. Before the arrest, the police also lathi-charged the protesters. The activists of the opposition parties entered the red zone by crossing all the barriers put up by the police.
Women are also among the protestors protesting in the red zone. The participants of the protest continued to raise slogans against rigging in the elections. On this occasion, the police prevented the protesters from moving towards the Sindh Assembly, however, there are reports of some male and female protesters being detained by the police during the clash.
Prolonged traffic jam on Shahrah Faisal
Meanwhile, a heavy contingent of police has been deployed at Shahrah Faisal Nursery, while long queues of vehicles have formed due to heavy traffic jam.
Earlier it was informed by DIG South Zone that section 144 is enforced by Home Department in red zone. If there is any protest or any loss, the entire responsibility will be on GDA leaders and leaders of other political parties.

Roads around Sindh Assembly closed
Besides, in view of the Sindh Assembly meeting and the protest of political parties, the road from Urdu Bazaar to the Sindh Assembly was closed for traffic. Containers were erected on the road from Urdu Bazar to Court Road to Sindh Assembly, while containers were also placed on the road from Arts Council to Press Club.
Alternative traffic plan
In the plan released by the traffic police, it was mentioned that the traffic coming from Fawara Chowk, Sindh Club and Sadar will not be allowed to go towards MR Kayani Chowk. Traffic will be diverted towards Awan Sadar Khajoor Chowk. Traffic going to Court Road from Ahl Hadith Chowk will be diverted to Fresco Chowk and Regal Chowk. Traffic coming from Shaheen Chowk II Chandragarh Road will not be allowed to go towards MR Kayani Chowk.
Traffic will be diverted towards Khajoor Chowk or Pakistan Chowk. Traffic coming from Chhatri Chowk, Fresco Chowk and other sides will not be allowed to go towards MR Kayani Chowk. Traffic will be diverted towards Pakistan Chowk. Awan Sadar Road Artillery Ground Police Station Street and Sarwar Shaheed Road Coast Guard Officers Mess will also not be allowed to go towards MR Kayani Chowk.
The traffic police issued an instruction that passengers are requested to avoid unnecessary travel to these areas. If travel is absolutely necessary, take alternate routes to avoid hassle and inconvenience.
