May 9 cases; Order to continue court proceedings without Imran Khan's presence

Lahore: The Anti-Terrorism Court ordered the continuation of the proceedings in the May 9 cases without the presence of Imran Khan.

A hearing was held on interim bails of founder chairman PTI Imran Khan in 7 other cases including Jinnah House, Askari Tower, Muslim League-N House burning, in which the court extended Imran Khan’s interim bail in 7 cases till March 1.

In the hearing held in front of Judge Arshad Javed of the Anti-Terrorism Court, the presence of the founding chairman of PTI could not be completed through video link even today. According to the court order, Imran Khan was not present on WhatsApp.

During the hearing, the court remarked that the Adiala Jail Superintendent has been guilty of contempt of court. If contempt proceedings are initiated against the superintendent, the decision on the interim bail of the accused will be delayed. Leaving aside the issue of attendance of the accused from jail. The court ordered to continue the court proceedings without the presence of PTI founder.

The court asked the parties to decide on the merits after arguments on the interim bail of the accused. If the attendance and appearance of the accused is waited for, the decision will be delayed. During the hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Abdul Jabbar Dogar did not object to the decision on merit. The prosecutor argued that the presence of the accused was not important. Everyone knows that PTI founder is in Adiala Jail. It is better if the arguments for interim bail are completed without the presence of the accused.

PTI founder lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar agreed to the proposal to complete the arguments in absentia and requested that the court decide on interim bail today.
