Chief Election Commissioner Sultan Raja issued a notification in contempt of the High Court decision, Jamaat-e-Islami
Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami filed a contempt of court petition against the Chief Election Commissioner and others in the Sindh High Court.
The contempt of court petition has been filed by the provincial assembly candidates through Usman Farooq Advocate. Those who filed the petition include Junaid Makati, Wajiha Al Hasan, Nusratullah, Muhammad Ahmed and Muhammad Akbar.
In the contempt petition, the stand was taken that the Chief Election Commissioner Sultan Raja, in contempt of the High Court’s decision, issued the notification of the success of the opposing candidates, the Sindh High Court had directed that the candidates should be heard and decided. The Chief Election Commissioner took the decision without hearing us, which is contempt of court. Sindh High Court is requested to take action against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
Speaking in this regard, Jamaat-e-Islami’s lawyer Usman Farooq Advocate said that on February 13, the Chief Justice while dealing with the petitions against the election results had directed the Election Commission to listen to all of them and then take a decision. The Election Commission, defying the order, issued the notification of the success of everyone on the same night, which falls under the category of contempt of court. The court is requested to take contempt of court action against the Election Commission on the violation of the order.
