Karachi: Abbasi Shaheed Hospital was locked due to election duties of the staff.

According to Express News, more than 750 staff including all doctors, nurses, ICU consultants of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital have been put on election duty.

Due to lack of doctors and medical staff in the city’s third largest government hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, there may be severe disruption in the treatment of patients on election day.

The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, Dr. Naseem Ahmed, is also being called for election duty due to which there are fears that the emergency services in the hospital will also be suspended.

174 people, including RMOs, senior registrar, medical officer, computer operator and senior nurse of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital under Baldia Uzma Karachi, were called to perform duties in Kemari district during the election, while duties in Gharbi district were called. 574 people from Abbasi Shaheed Hospital were also called to donate.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesuri took notice of the news of the closure of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital due to election duty on a private TV channel, Sindh Governor contacted Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab and directed to investigate the matter.

The governor of Sindh said that reports of the closure of the third largest hospital in the city are very alarming. On the last visit to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, he appealed to the Election Commission not to impose duty on the hospital staff.

The mayor assured the Sindh governor of Karachi and said that he will investigate the matter and inform you. Governor Sindh also directed the Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz to keep the emergency of all the hospitals of the province active.
