Renowned jurist Justice (R) Rashid A. Rizvi passed away

Karachi: Eminent jurist and former judge Justice (R) Rashid A. Rizvi passed away.

According to details, former judge and renowned jurist Rashid A. Rizvi died in Karachi. Rashid A. Rizvi son of Rafiq Rizvi was born in Bombay in 1947. After which Rashid A. Rizvi’s family migrated to Karachi, Pakistan.

Rashid A. Rizvi was a former judge of the Sindh High Court. He was the former President of Supreme Court Bar Association and he has been 4 times President of Sindh High Court Bar Association, Member Pakistan Bar Council, Vice Chairman Sindh Bar Council, President Karachi Bar Association and Chairperson of Commission for Protection.

He was a leading senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, a prominent leader of the legal community and a leading figure in the struggle for constitutional and human rights in Pakistan against military dictators.

Rashid A. Rizvi was one of the few senior lawyers in Pakistan who devoted a major part of his legal career to providing legal services to the poor and marginalized sections of Pakistan, especially the working class.

His funeral prayer will be held today, Sunday, February 4, after noon prayer at Yathrab Defense Phase 4 Imam Bargah, while burial will be done at Defense Phase 8 Cemetery.

Governor Sindh Kamran Tesuri, Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Rashid A. Rizvi.

The Governor of Sindh said in his condolence statement that Rashid A. Rizvi worked as a judge and lawyer all his life for the upliftment of law and justice, he was also my lawyer, his death is my personal loss, may Allah Almighty forgive him and Raise the grades.

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed his deep sorrow over the death of senior jurist Justice Rashid A. Rizvi and said that ‘Late Justice Rashid A. Rizvi had immense services for the rule of law, Rashid A. Rizvi passed away. The news is shocking for me and my family as well.

Chairman PPP said that ‘in this hour of sorrow, I am an equal sharer in the grief of the family of Rashid A. Rizvi and I also pray for the forgiveness and high status of the deceased’.
