Farmers will provide livestock waste for the Redline biogas bus project

Karachi: Cattle waste will be supplied from Asia’s largest dairy and cattle market for biogas-powered buses in Karachi. A formal agreement has been reached between Transport Operator Trans Karachi and Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association.

According to Shakir Umar Gujjar, President of Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association, Dairy Farmers will provide dung for availability of gas in the Red Line Biogas Bus Project, a foundation based on Dairy Farmers of Buffalo Colony, Karachi Trans and Biogas Plant Operator. The foundation will be laid.

The revenue generated from the gas plant will be used for the development and welfare of the dairy farmers of the buffalo colony. Under the agreement, the farmers of the buffalo colony will supply the waste of 350 to 400,000 cattle to the biogas plant, from which 8,000 tons of organic fertilizer will also be produced on a daily basis along with the biogas.

For the implementation of the agreement, Buffalo Colony Community Foundation will be formed in which apart from Asian Development Bank representative, Sindh Government, Trans Karachi Company will also be represented. will

According to Shakir Umar Gujjar, the project of biogas production from buffalo waste will help in remediation of Karachi’s environment, especially marine pollution. The air in the buffalo colony is polluted due to the huge amount of excreta and respiratory and skin diseases due to carbon monoxide along with carbon dioxide are common.

This project will be useful for the health of the residents of the area and will prevent waste falling into the sea, which will also reduce marine pollution.

Under the project, social improvement activities and facilities will also be built in the buffalo colony, including basic infrastructure, education and health centers, and an agricultural university campus will be built, while farmers will be provided with technical support for the production of value-added products and Training will also be provided.
