Brisk walking can protect you from type 2 diabetes, research suggests


A study has said that one should try to walk briskly to avoid the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

In this regard, research has claimed that walking at a speed of 3.7 miles per hour can reduce the risk of developing the aforementioned type of diabetes by more than a third.

Experts involved in the research said that this is something that everyone can do in their daily lives.

The research was conducted by an international team of researchers including Imperial College London. The researchers wanted to know what the optimal or desirable walking speed should be to prevent diabetes.

After which they reviewed 10 studies conducted between 1999 and 2022 for a period of 3 to 11 years. 58,121 adults from across the UK, Japan and the US participated in this study.

According to experts, it concluded that brisk walking at a speed of six kilometers per hour (3.7 miles per hour) can reduce the risk of diabetes by 39 percent.
