Health experts say that lack of sleep increases the chances of depression. In this regard, scientists have been wondering for a long time whether depression (mental stress) causes insomnia or lack of sleep causes depression.
Now, a new research has revealed that the latter is true, i.e. lack of sleep leads to depression.
Researchers say that getting less than 5 hours of sleep a night increases the risk of developing depressive symptoms.
Lead author Odyssa Hamilton, from the Institute of Epidemiology and Healthcare at University College London, said: “When we looked at the genetic potential for disease, we found that sleep was actually more closely related to depression.” There is a relationship. That is, lack of sleep increases the risk of depression.
For this study, scientists analyzed the genetic and health data of 7,000 people with an average age of 65 years.
