A week left for the start of the Cricket World Cup, the Pakistan team has not been announced yet.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) says that all the consultations for the World Cup squad have been completed, the team will be announced tomorrow.
Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf yesterday met the coaching staff of the Pakistan Cricket Team headed by Mickey Arthur, Captain Babar Azam, Vice Captain Shadab Khan and former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Muhammad Hafeez in the Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka. The performance of Pakistani cricket team in the cup was reviewed in detail.
The entire coaching staff of the Pakistan team including head coach Grant Bradburn, batting coach Andrew Piotke and bowling coach Morne Morkel were invited to the meeting to give their report on the team’s recent performance.
Dr. Sohail Saleem also participated in this review session who briefed the players about their injuries and their rehabilitation.
In the meeting, the recent performance of the team was reviewed in detail in relation to the fitness of the players and future plans and discussed how to improve the team.
In the meeting, it was agreed that a better strategy should be developed regarding the workload of the players, besides the importance of strengthening the bench was also discussed.
Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf said that the purpose of this review was to create an environment in which opinions can be openly expressed and consensus reached. The idea behind this review is to include everyone about the performance. Problems can be identified and solutions can be found.
“We have discussed the strengths and weaknesses and we are very clear about where to improve the team,” said Zaka Ashraf.
He said that from all these discussions it was revealed that the previous management had allowed many players to play league cricket due to which they got tired before playing national duty, but now we have It has been agreed that a proactive strategy will be put in place to deal with the athletes’ workload and prioritize national duties.
Zaka Ashraf said that he is happy that the review session was positive and we are all on the same page. We are confident that we have learned from the Asia Cup and it will help us in our preparation for the World Cup.
“We have the potential in our team and we believe that this team is capable of competing at the highest level, we have world class batsmen and bowlers,” he said.
He said that the Pakistan Cricket Board is providing all necessary facilities and resources to the players and coaching staff to ensure that the team appears in top form in this mega event.
Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, who could not attend the meeting yesterday due to a medical emergency, met Zaka Ashraf on Thursday and conveyed his opinion.
After the completion of this assessment, Inzamam-ul-Haq has finalized the selection of the Pakistani team and the Pakistan team for the ICC World Cup will be announced on Friday at 11:00 AM.
ICC Cricket World Cup will start from October 5 in India, Pakistan cricket team will play their first warm-up match on September 29 in Hyderabad Deccan against New Zealand.
