Polio virus has been confirmed in the environmental samples of two major cities of the country, Karachi and Peshawar.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, the detection of polio virus in environmental samples is alarming, the virus is genetically similar to the virus found in Afghanistan.
Caretaker Federal Health Minister Nadeem Jan has said that the presence of the virus indicates that children are at constant risk of the disease, and will investigate all positive environmental samples to detect affected populations.
Nadeem Jan says that immediate effective measures are being taken to strengthen children’s immunity.
