In connection with the Asian Games 2023, a list of 19 athletes has been prepared for various athletics events.
According to sources, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) prepared the list in consultation with the departments, which were not contacted due to the suspension of the Athletics Federation.
Sources said that the name of Commonwealth Games gold medalist in javelin throw, Arshad Nadeem, is included in the list. Arshad Nadeem’s participation will be subject to his fitness at the time of the Asian Games.
Javelin throw player Mohammad Yasir’s name is also included in the list of 19 players.
Pole Vault’s Jafar Ashraf, Long Jump’s Muhammad Afzal and Muhammad Akhtar are also in the list.
Shahroz Khan of High Jump is also a part of Pakistan Athletics Squad.
Farhat Bano and Sohail Amir of long distance, Farhan Ilyas and Ghazalia Ramadan of hurdles are included.
The names of runners Waqas Akbar, Rabila Farooq, Asadur Rehman and Abid Razak are also included in the list.
Sahib Isra, Shajar Abbas, Arooj Karan, Tamim Khan and Gauhar Shehbaz are also included in the 19 players.
Sources said that sprinter Abdul Moeed Baloch’s name is not included in the Asian Games list.
It should be noted that the Asian Games will be played from September 23 in Hangzhou, China.
According to the sources, Pakistan Olympic Association has accredited 19 athletes, POA is hopeful that all the athletes will participate in the event.
If funds are not released from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), the list may be cut.
