A US soldier has crossed the border into North Korea, and has been detained by authorities.
According to the US Broadcasting Corporation, the said military personnel were part of the Joint Security Area (JSA) tour of the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.
After the 1950 to 1953 war, the demilitarized zone is considered the border between South and North Korea.
The United Nations Command said in its statement that the American citizen crossed the military demarcation line into North Korea without permission during the JSA tour.
The American soldier was part of a group of tourists that included civilians.
The group was in the village of Panmunjom, where American soldiers crossed the border separating the two countries into North Korea.
