The Sindh Assembly passed the Protection and Promotion of Breastfeeding and Young Children Nutrition Bill.
In this regard, Parliamentary Secretary Health Qasim Soomro has said that after the approval of the assembly, the bill has been sent to the governor for signature, the purpose of the breastfeeding law is to protect children from malnutrition and diseases.
Qasim Soomro has said that formula milk can be sold in Sindh only on doctor’s prescription, according to the new law, formula milk will be available only at pharmacies and designated stores.
He said that the representatives of the formula milk manufacturing companies will not be able to go to the hospitals and neither will these representatives be in the infant feeding board.
According to Qasim Soomro, marketing of breast milk substitute products for children up to 3 years of age will not be possible.
