The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern that avian influenza (bird flu) could potentially be a threat to humans as well.
Bird flu cases are on the rise, causing bird deaths worldwide.
The World Health Organization said that the avian influenza virus usually spreads among birds, but with increasing cases of H5N1 influenza, there is concern that the virus could easily infect humans.
H5N1 influenza is circulating in dairy animals other than birds, and after being transferred to these animals, bird flu can mutate into a new virus that can be harmful to humans.
Since 2021, there have been 8 recorded human infections with H5N1.
The World Organization for Animal Health says it has received reports of bird flu in marine and land mammals, including dogs and cats, from three continents.
The organization said that there may be regions where the virus is present but has not been diagnosed.
