The final training camp of Pakistan Street Child Football Team for World Youth Football Cup “Norway Cup 2023” has started in Islamabad.
The training camp will continue till July 27 at the Islamabad Sports Complex and the selection of the squad for the Norway Cup will be finalized. The national team will fly to Norway on July 28 to participate in the event.
Earlier, the management of Pakistan Street Child Football Team organized trials for Norway Cup across the country last month in which thousands of youngsters participated.
Norway Cup will be held from July 29 to August 5 in Oslo, Norway. Pakistan Street Child Team has participated in the mega event twice. The national team finished second in Norway Cup 2015 and third in 2016.
In last year’s Street Child Football World Cup held in Doha, the national team was undefeated in the group matches, but the Pakistan team had to face a 3-4 failure against Egypt in the decisive match.
National team forward Tufail Shinwari was named the best player of the tournament for scoring 13 goals. 16-year-old Tufail Shinwari became the center of attention when he scored back-to-back goals in matches against Bosnia and Qatar, while India’s tour ended in the group matches.
28 teams from 24 countries participated in the 11-day mega event and the event was organized by UK-based non-profit, Street Child United.
It should be noted that the Pakistan team was the runner-up in the Street Child Football World Cup 2018 as well, while in 2014, it was at the third position.
