Islamabad: Chinese county has decided to cooperate in agriculture with Pakistan.

Officials of Mian County, an agriculture-based county in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, are in talks with Pakistan to exchange agricultural products. CEN learns that the exchange will be based on local specialties of both sides, such as Chinese medicine and black tea and Pakistani mangoes and rice.

According to Gwadar Pro, apart from barter trade of agricultural products, exchange of high-yielding crop varieties will also be included in the cooperation. Abdul Ghaffar Shar, a post-doc research fellow at Northwest A&F University, who facilitated the collaboration, told CEN that the collaboration is expected to start from the southern regions of Pakistan, particularly Sindh.

For example, Sukkur or Khairpur are suitable for cultivation of Chinese medicine, and Larkana provides fertile land for rice, he said. The Chinese medicine and tea industries are the two pillars of agricultural development in Mian County, leveraging its agricultural resources to lift more than 50,000 people out of poverty.

With more than 20 Chinese medicine processing companies in the county, it is processing 3600 tons of Chinese herbal medicine with annual sales of more than 47 million yuan. Hanzhong City, where Mian County is located, is one of the earliest tea cultivation areas in China. More than one million local people are engaged in the production, operation and services of the tea industry.
