The Department of Livestock Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has expressed the fear of the spread of Congo and lumpy skin virus in cattle in view of the arrival of Eid-ul-Azha.
The Livestock Department has sent a letter to all districts and said that there is a possibility of large-scale outbreak due to movement of cattle.
The letter said that the recommendations to prevent possible Congo and Lumpy virus should be strictly followed and check posts in tribal districts should be provided with additional sprays for cattle.
The Livestock Department has said in a letter that staff should be posted at check posts in North Waziristan and all sub-divisions as cattle-borne diseases are also a threat to public health.
Director of Livestock Department Alam Zeib Khan while talking to Geo News said that 83 thousand vaccine doses of lumpy skin virus have been purchased so far, funds have been requested from the Finance Department to buy more vaccines.
He has also said that last year in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 7000 cattle died due to lumpy skin virus while 18000 cattle were infected.
