Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have opposed Pakistan Cricket Board’s hybrid model on Asia Cup 2023, but Pakistan has also made it clear that Pakistan will not play if the tournament is held at another venue.
According to sources, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have objections to matches in UAE.
Sri Lanka Cricket Board Secretary Mohan De Silva has said that we have written to the Asian Cricket Council that they are against the hybrid formula.
Mohan D’Silva has said that no final decision has been taken yet, it is very hot in the United Arab Emirates, there is a suggestion for the PCB to hold the Asia Cup at another venue like Sri Lanka.
He has said that if Sri Lanka is offered to host the Asia Cup, he will accept it.
On the other hand, the PCB official has said that there is no problem in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh playing in Pakistan, PCB has the emails of Sri Lanka Cricket and Bangladesh Cricket Board.
PCB official says that Asia Cup 2022 was played in UAE from 27th August to 11th September, Asia Cup 2018 was also played from 15th to 28th September, same window is for Asia Cup this year too.
The PCB official also says that if the Asia Cup is held at a venue other than Pakistan, then Pakistan will not play.
Sources say that the Pakistan Cricket Board has once again proposed a hybrid model to the Asian Cricket Council, offering a solution to ACC’s logistical and technical problems.
Under the hybrid model, India’s matches will be played at neutral venues while the remaining matches will be played in Pakistan.
