Walking or running, which is better?


Walking and running are two major types of cardiovascular exercises. Cardiovascular exercises make breathing harder and your heart beat faster.

When the heart pumps blood faster, this process helps remove debris that blocks blood flow to the arteries, thereby reducing the risk of stroke or heart disease.

Cardiovascular exercise improves blood sugar, improves mood, improves memory, reduces the risk of dementia and lowers cholesterol levels.

Most people start their exercise with walking or running, both of which are beneficial for heart health.

Running puts some stress on the heart muscle but does not appear to reduce the risk of premature death, while brisk walking puts less stress on the heart and significantly reduces the risk of premature death.

A 2013 study of 33,000 runners and 15,000 walkers found that brisk walking reduced the risk of heart disease more effectively than running.

The study found that the risk of high blood pressure was reduced by 4.2% by running and by 7.2% by walking.

Apart from this, walking is an excellent exercise for knee, ankle and back problems, it is also helpful for obese people to lose weight.
