The Declining Standard of Education A National Tragedy

Written by: Muhammad Ali

Education is the foundation and backbone of any nation’s progress. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, the standard of education is steadily deteriorating. Instead of being treated as a national priority, education has become a commercial enterprise. While private institutions charge exorbitant fees, public schools are suffering from neglect and inefficiency.
Lack of teacher training, outdated curricula, widespread cheating in examinations, and poor infrastructure are major factors behind this decline. In rural areas, schools exist but teachers are often absent, students disinterested, and parents unaware of the importance of education. The government’s commitment remains limited to empty promises.
Sadly, education today has been reduced to mere degrees and certificates. The real purpose character building and intellectual growth has been forgotten. As a result, we are producing a generation of degree-holders who lack skills, creativity, and social awareness.
It is high time we stop treating education as a tool to pass exams and start seeing it as a path to building responsible, capable citizens. We must focus on teacher development, curriculum reform, and strict oversight of institutions to ensure quality education for all.
The declining standard of education is not just an academic issue it’s a question of our nation’s future. If we do not act now, the next generations will suffer the consequences of our ignorance.
