Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan will lead the Election Mission of Common wealth comprising of 13 multidisciplinary experts to observe to Pakistan’s general elections scheduled for 8 February 2024.
Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland in a statement said that Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) will arrive in Islamabad today i.e on 1st February, 2024 and will be staying in the country till the completion of electoral process.
The Commonwealth Observer Group will be deployed at different cities throughout the country to observe and monitor electoral processes. Commonwealth Observe Group will meet election officials, representatives from political parties, media and civil organizations. For all these activities, Ms Scotland, Commonwealth Secretary –General said that a team from Commonwealth Electoral Support Section will provide assistance to COG to ensure smooth working.
Ms. Scotland further added that COG will note and interpret the whole steps of electoral process of Pakistan. COG observations will start from the opening of polling stations , voting process, counting of ballots and finally declaration of results. Meanwhile they will also hold a press conference and share their provisional report with its initial findings.
Commonwealth General Secretary Ms. Patricia Scotland also hoped that Pakistan will carry a peaceful election keeping in view the Commonwealth values.
