Lahore: The Lahore High Court ordered to change the DG Environment and to keep all public and private educational institutions closed on Saturdays, to make a two-day work-from-home policy in the offices and said that the government’s The only solution is to take vacations all over Punjab.
According to Express News, Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court heard the petitions for remedying smog. On the order of the court, Commissioner Lahore and other government officials appeared in the court. The court remarked that Commissioner Lahore comes here and talks but the performance is nothing, the court confirmed that the situation is getting worse, videos are coming from different areas.
The court directed the caretaker Punjab government to transfer the deputy commissioners of Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Gujranullah and is also issuing contempt of court notices to these officers. The court ordered closure of all public and private schools and colleges on Saturday and implementation of the two-day-a-week work-farm-home policy.
The court directed DG Environment to change immediately. The court expressed indignation during the hearing, “If you have given leave, now go on leave yourself and enjoy sitting at home. The only solution for smog is to make holidays in the whole of Punjab.”
The lawyer informed the court that lakhs of tonnes of tires have been recovered from the limits of five police stations, the Chief Secretary is not sure what to do. The court remarked that most of the smog is caused by vehicular smoke, the court directed to promote cycling and public transport, if the traffic stops for five minutes, the whole city will be disrupted.
The lawyer’s position was that we have constructed the underpass in just 70 days. The court remarked that you should get star distinction on it? The smog that will come after this construction will make us suffer all winter long. The court directed that a meeting of the member Judicial Water Commission should be held with the Chief Secretary Punjab and the policy of working from home two days a week should be followed in the offices.
Justice Shahid Karim directed that the member commission should hold a meeting with the chief secretary of Punjab, the member commission should inform the chief secretary about the court orders in this meeting.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing till Wednesday.
