An outbreak of the highly rare fungal infection histoplasmosis has been reported in Islamabad.
Dr. Naseem Akhtar, Head of Infectious Diseases Department of Pims Hospital, says that 2 cases of fungal infection histoplasmosis have been reported in Islamabad.
Dr. Naseem has said that 1 person has died due to fungal infection histoplasmosis while another is recovering.
He said that regarding histoplasmosis, it was believed that this disease is not found in Pakistan, after examining 2 patients, this disease was detected.
Dr. Naseem Akhtar says that so far no case of histoplasmosis has been reported from any other region of Pakistan.
He has appealed to the government to facilitate the urinary histoplasma antigen test at Pims Hospital.
Dr. Naseem Akhtar also says that other advanced tests and antiviral and antifungal drugs should also be given in Pimz Hospital.
