Karachi: 3 shops were destroyed due to gas leakage explosion in the shop of a residential building near Maskan Chowrangi, many vehicles were damaged while cracks appeared in the building.
A loud explosion occurred due to gas leakage in a pizza shop of a residential apartment near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan Iqbal area in Shahr Quaid, the sound of which was heard far away. Due to the explosion, destruction spread everywhere and 4 people including the motorcyclist were injured.
As a result of the explosion, 3 shops, including a pizza shop, were completely destroyed and other shops were partially damaged, while the debris of the building fell on more than 10 vehicles parked in the parking lot of the residential building, due to which some vehicles were destroyed and some were seriously damaged. Cracks appeared in the residential building containing apartments and shops.
The bomb disposal squad team said in their report that due to gas leakage in the pizza shop, gas pressure was created and the explosion occurred due to fluctuating electrical wires in the shop. After the explosion, 2 owners of the pizza shop and an employee were detained by the police for questioning.
According to the residents, there have been 4 explosions in residential apartment shops so far. 5 people were killed in the blast 3 years ago, 6 flats were completely destroyed and many shops were damaged.

On Monday morning, the gas leakage explosion in the pizza shop of residential apartment Allah Noor was so severe that the goods stored in the shops were blown away. On receiving the information of the explosion, the volunteers of the welfare organizations reached the spot and immediately shifted the injured to the nearest hospital. On receiving the information, police, rangers, rescue agencies, fire brigade, 1122, Sui Southern Company and K Electric personnel also reached the spot and started the operation.
The police immediately summoned the staff of the Crime Scene Unit and the Bomb Disposal Squad. During rescue operations, rescuers also found a cylinder from the pizza shop, which had an open valve. It is suspected that there was a gas leak from the same cylinder, which caused the explosion. According to the police, the injured in the blast were identified as 46-year-old Adnan Ahmed Barki son of Waheed Ahmed Barki, 30-year-old Muhammad Waqas son of Hamid, 40-year-old Imran son of Maqsood Ahmed, 34-year-old Muhammad Arshad son of Ghulam Mustafa. 3 injured were sent home from the hospital after first aid while the fourth injured is undergoing treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Police say that no evidence of sabotage was found at the scene. After the explosion, the residents of Allah Noorrahayshi apartment also came out of their houses in large numbers. He said that there was a very dangerous explosion in a shop called Street Pizza. It felt like an earthquake. There was smoke and destruction everywhere.
It should be noted that there are gas cylinders in many shops of residential apartments because all the shops here have cooking functions, while the rules of residential apartments do not allow cooking and preparation of food in shops. Residents said that the gas leakage explosion caused more damage inside residential apartments than shops. Vehicles were destroyed while the building suffered cracks.
Residents of the building said that many complaints have been made to all the relevant institutions, applications have also been submitted, but no action has been taken. Residents expressed fear that cooking or preparing food in the shops posed serious risks to their lives.
According to residents, there have been 4 explosions in Allah Noor residential apartment so far. In the October 2020 explosion, 5 people were killed, 6 flats were completely destroyed and many shops were damaged. In the recent blast, several vehicles in the parking lot of the residential apartment were also severely damaged. He demanded that the administration should fulfill its responsibility and the shopkeepers should be ordered not to use cylinders.
According to the police officials, after the explosion due to gas leakage, 2 owners of the pizza shop and one employee have been detained for questioning, who are being investigated.
