The National Institute of Health (NIH) has expressed concern about the spread of Nipah virus.
NIH Islamabad has sent warning letters to federal and provincial health authorities regarding Nipah virus.
In the post, the National Health Organization said that Nipah virus can be transmitted to Pakistan from bats in Indian border areas, Nipah virus can be transmitted to humans by eating fruit of infected bats.
The NIH post added that Nipah virus is transmitted from infected bats, pigs to humans, with symptoms lasting 5 to 10 days.
The post also said that headache, fever, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain and drowsiness are symptoms of Nipah virus.
The NIH letter said that effective surveillance should be ensured at airports, border points, and antiviral vaccines are not available to treat Nipah virus.
