Caretaker Commerce Minister Gauhar Ijaz says that European Union parliamentarians have decided to extend the GSP plus scheme for Pakistan for another 4 years.
The caretaker trade minister said that the European Union parliamentarians decided to extend the GSP Plus scheme till 2027. It is hoped that the European Council will give the final approval of the rules for the scheme soon.
He said that the current GSP plus facility for Pakistan is scheduled to expire in December 2023.
On the other hand, EU Ambassador Rina Cuenca responded by tagging the caretaker commerce minister’s social media statement and said that instead of a decision at the end of 2023, an extension has already been proposed.
He says that this extension is not related to the performance of Pakistan or any other member country, the member countries of the European Union will decide it soon.
The European Ambassador further said that Pakistan’s performance will continue to be monitored.
