Lahore: The High Court directed the Election Commission to submit a report on the date of elections in Punjab.
Justice Jawad Hasan heard the contempt of court petition against the Election Commission and the Governor of Punjab for not giving the date of the election in Punjab despite the court orders.
During the hearing, Justice Jawad Hasan remarked that Azhar sir, how can your application be filed so quickly? Why are you in such a hurry? Do you not trust the courts? The court inquired that where are the attorneys of the Election Commission and the Governor? Has the Election Commission filed any appeal?
Justice Jawad Hassan said that the court has done its work, now the court is waiting to see what they are doing. The petitioner’s lawyer told the court that the Election Commission has issued a press release, the governor has refused to give the date. Justice Jawad Hasan said that the court does not accept press releases. The Election Commission has 20 days to appeal. You wait.
The lawyer of the federal government told the court that the Election Commission has convened a meeting at eleven o’clock today. The Election Commission consulted with the Governor as per the court directive.
Later, the court directed the Election Commission to submit the progress report so far.
