Karachi: The caretaker government of Sindh has decided to crack down on those who steal electricity in the province.
According to Express News, the Sindh government has formed a provincial task force committee headed by the Home Secretary to take action against electricity thieves.
Committees for action against electricity thieves have been formed under the chairmanship of commissioners at the divisional and district levels.
The committee includes Secretary Energy, Power Division, Commissioners, DIGs, SSPs, and senior officials of HESCO and SEPCO as members.
Chief Secretary Sindh has written a letter to the S&GE department asking them to effectively implement the decisions of the provincial task force for the campaign against power theft in collaboration with all stakeholders.
The letter added that a comprehensive public awareness campaign should be conducted in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders, providing regular data on high damage feeders as well as detailed information on recovery.
In his address, the Chief Secretary further said that the weekly programs designed to eradicate electricity theft and recovery from defaulters should be effectively implemented.
