Peshawar: The initiative of charging various taxes in the bills of electricity consumers across the country as well as giving free electricity units to WAPDA and other government officials was challenged in the Peshawar High Court.
Aminur Rahman Yousafzai Advocate has filed a writ petition in this regard in which WAPDA, NEPRA, All Discos, Water and Power Division and Federal Government have been made parties.
It has been argued in the writ petition that at present the people of Pakistan are under the burden of inflation and the WAPDA authorities are harassing them in various ways. According to the writ, the production of electricity in the country is more than the required requirement, but along with the non-supply of electricity to the consumers, various types of taxes have been sent in the electricity bills, which the consumers are not aware of.
According to Aminur Rahman Advocate, WAPDA authorities have taken steps to extract money from the public in various ways, including additional tax, extra tax, e-tax, fuel tax, income tax, PTV tax and other taxes which are not in the current situation. It is difficult for customers to pay.
In this writ petition, the stand has been taken that the government is crying about inflation on the one hand and on the other hand it is putting the entire burden on the people and the elites are free from it.
According to the writ petition, especially the lower class have been sent heavy taxes in electricity bills in recent months which is beyond their capacity to bear. In this context, estimates of various companies and their production have also been given, in which it has been stated that most of the electricity in Pakistan is produced from water in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but the people of this province are also charged the same charges as the country. are planted in other parts of
It has been requested that the WAPDA authorities should be made bound to bring uniformity in electricity bills and abolish all taxes. Also, the employees who are being given free units should be stopped immediately. Apart from this, the meter rent in the electricity bills should also be declared null and void while the collection of transformer repair fees from the electricity consumers should be stopped.
It has also been pleaded in the writ that at present all the readings are not being taken equally and different readings are being taken at different times and the consumers do not know how much electricity they have consumed at that time. The system should be made transparent.
Aminur Rahman Advocate has requested that considering the current situation, the taxes in the electricity bills should be removed immediately and relief should be given to the consumers, those who are using free electricity should be cut off from these units and their free units should be closed. go
