This move has come after President Dr. Arif Alvi has returned the services of his Secretary Waqar Ahmed to the Establishment Division on the issue of the Official Secrets Act Bill and the Army Act Amendment Bill.

A statement issued by the President’s Secretariat said that the services of Waqar Ahmed, Secretary to the President, were no longer required and he was immediately transferred to the Establishment Division.

Waqar Ahmed said in his post that “The purpose of this is to clarify some facts, I want to bring it on record that I am not responsible for any irregularity regarding Bills”.

“Contrary to the allegations of delay and violation, the documents related to the bills are still in the presidential chambers, the decision to return my services is not based on justice,” he claimed.

Waqar Ahmed said that the President did not approve or send back the Army Act (Amendment) Bill to the Parliament, the files related to the Bill were not returned to the Secretary’s Office till August 21.

He urged the President to conduct an investigation into the matter by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or any relevant agency so that the truth comes to light.

He asserted that if any wrongdoing is proved, those responsible should be held accountable, I am ready to testify before the Supreme Court or any other court, I will produce records to prove my innocence. .

Waqar Ahmed clarified that the Official Secrets Act (Amendment) Bill 2023 was received by the President after official hours on August 8, it was sent to the President on August 9 and the President was fully briefed on the facts related to both the bills. There is awareness.

He said that under Article 75 of the Constitution, the President has to approve a bill within 10 days and under the same provision, he can send the bill to Parliament for reconsideration within the same number of days.

However, he added, the President neither approved the bill nor sent it back to Parliament and the Bill remained in the President’s office till August 21.
