The United Nations has said that Israel has turned Palestine into an open prison.
This has been said by Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Representative of Human Rights for Palestine, in a statement given to the UN Human Rights Council.
He says that Palestinians in Palestine are constantly facing Israeli imprisonment and surveillance. Since 1967, Israel has imprisoned more than 800,000 Palestinians in the occupied territory.
Francesca Albanese says that 160 Palestinian children are currently imprisoned in Israeli prisons, about 1,100 of the 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli prisons are held without charge or trial.
He has said that the Israeli practice of illegally imprisoning Palestinians is tantamount to international crimes.
Francesca Albanese has called for an immediate investigation into the Israeli aggression in Palestine by the International Criminal Court.
He added that Israeli crimes in Palestine appear to be part of the plan to ‘de-Palestinize’ the region.
Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special representative for human rights for Palestine, also says that Palestinians are brutally treated in Israeli custody.
