Asif Bhatti climbers stranded on Nanga Parbat reached the base camp

Asif Bhatti, a Pakistani mountaineer stranded on the 8126-meter Nanga Parbat, has returned to the base camp. Asif Bhatti suffered from snow blindness three days ago on the world’s ninth highest peak.

Asif Bhatti is a mountaineer as well as a professor in a university in Islamabad.

On July 3, he was on a sight-seeing expedition to the Nanga Parbat summit when he suffered from snow blindness and needed immediate help.

Due to bad weather, it was not possible to rescue Asif Bhatti by helicopter, but brave mountaineer Azrafel Asherli of Azerbaijan canceled his summit and decided to help Asif Bhatti.

Azrafeel first slowly brought Asif Bhatti to Camp Three and then came to Camp Two. Meanwhile, two rescue mountaineers Fazal Ali and Mohammad Younis from the base camp also moved towards Camp Two and joined Asif Bhatti and Azrafel at Camp Two last night.

On Thursday morning, with the help of Fazal Ali and Younis, Asif Bhatti was taken from Camp Two to Camp One and then from Camp One to Base Camp in the evening. Azrafel Asherli also came down after resting for some time at Camp Two.

The role of Pakistan’s female mountaineer Naila Kayani was instrumental in ensuring this rescue operation, who acted as a link between all the agencies, the climbers trapped on the mountain and the climbers going to the rescue.

According to the information received from the base camp, Asif Bhatti’s morale is high but his health is affected, he is suffering from physical and mental exhaustion. They will be taken to Skardu as soon as possible, where after providing first aid, they will be taken to Islamabad for further treatment.
